The Chancellor and the other members of the government are allowed to be also members of the ''Bundestag'' (though they are not required to be).

An extended body is the Federal Cabinet (''Bundeskabinett)'', which includes the Federal Government (consisting of the Federal Chancellor and Federal Ministers), the Head of the Federal Chancellery and its Parliamentary State Secretary, the Head of the Office of the Federal President, the Head of the and the Personal Advisor to the Federal Chancellor.
