In the name of the Spanish U.G.T., in exile in Morocco, we take the liberty of appealing to your great sense of justice and your democratic feelings, with the certitude that you will take our urgent request into consideration. Seventy Spanish Republicans lead by two of the most glorious names in the Spanish Republican Army, Santiago ALVAREZ and Sebastian ZAPIRAIN, have been arrested in Spain, and the lives of these two workers are in danger. France, the only sponsor of hitlerisme still existing in the world, continues to plunge our country in the most dreadful state of tyranny and despotisme that Spain has ever known. Since 1936, when he revolted against the Republic, unic legal Regime in Spain, guided in his treason by his personal ambition and the interests of the privileged Spanish casts, he has not ceased committing the most execrable crimes, covering his foul deeds with the name and rights of the very law which he was the first to violate. To reach his goal, he did not hesitate to build his power on the misery of the living and the bodies of countless dead, even selling his country to Nazis + Fascists and becoming their most obedient servant. The sublime sacrifice carried out by millions of human beings, in the defendence of liberty and freedom of people must not be in vain. Your Organization among many others, has energetically protested against the sentence of death being passed on our two compatriotes. We have been deeply touched by this proof of your solidarity and human feelings and we will never forget your gesture. We urgently request your influential intervention on behalf of these two Republicans who are following the glorious way traced for them in 1936 by the Spanish Free People in defendence of their ideals for liberty and justice. For these same ideals the United Nations have fought until the total destruction of hitlerisme and its satellites. Confident that you will do all in your power on behalf of our comrades, we beg you to accept our heartfelt thanks. Sincerely yours.
