description 2007 "Henderson, Marie", 2007, Bishopsgate Institute Marie Henderson was born in Stepney in 1933. She entered clothes manufacturing, also known as the "rag trade", as a sample machinist after leaving school, working first in the West End then nearer her home. She worked with many of the other local women in the rag trade. In her interview she talks about the hours, pay, holidays and work culture. She describes why she entered the rag trade and didn't get an office job, because she felt she didn't have the appropriate education. Later she describes how she did work in an office.
