After doing National Service, he had jobs at the Vulcan sheet metal works on Latimer Road, a Goldhawk Road sheet metal works, on the railways at the Old Oak Common depot servicing trains and at Paddington Station as a porter, at the tinning factory on Latimer Road, where Doreen worked, and then as a van driver in Hammersmith. Fred and Doreen have had five children. In this clip he talks about the lack of pension and redundancy pay.
