This extract from Dorothy Elliott's unpublished autobiography, 'Women in Search of Justice', describes the setting up of the Ministry of Labour Women's Consultative Committee [WCC] and women munitions workers in the Royal Ordnance Factories.
Dorothy Elliott [1897-1980] was a munitions worker during the First World War, organiser first for the National Federation of Women Workers 1918-1920 and then for the National Union of General and Municipal Workers from1921, becoming National Women's Officer 1935-1946. She was the TUC representative on the Committee on Women Power from 1940 and a member of the WCC from 1941. |
