Citizens' rights can only be defended by united efforts to overcome the evils which threaten to underminde them: terrorism, violence, intolerance, xenophobia, drug-taking, misuse of computerised personal information … Throughout democratic Europe human dignity is now protected by international agreements which guarantee human rights, social justice and equal treatment for men and women.
