Tussen de JGS en de AJC-SAV bestonden er heel wat tegenstellingen. Terwijl de Waalse JGS resoluut een links-revolutionaire koers voerden en zich dikwijls opstelden als oppositiegroep binnen de BWP, legden de Vlaamse AJC-SAV meer de nadruk op de educatieve en recreatieve werking.
