condition of the patient's Home, which he leaves and returns to. I wish to instance a case in point. Last year a youth, who was in a fairly advanced state of Consumption left to go to the Sanatorium at Clare. The case was, I thought, notified to the Medical Officer of Health, asking him to disinfect the room the patient had occupied. It was evidently overlooked by him, for nothing was done. Some eight months later, a brother attended St. George's with early tubercle. He had been away with Scarlet fever when his brother left home, but returned to sleep in his room, and in his lowered state of health probably contracted the disease from the germs which his brother had left behind. I am sure too a patient should not RETURN to a room in which there is any chance of the old infection being left - for he is certainly not in a state to run this risk with impunity. It also seems quite worth while to visit the home regularly for some months afterwards in order to anticipate any falling back. We should, I think, put the after care of consumptives more on a par with the active treatment, if permanent good is to follow. I should like to just speak of the help that is being received from a new Society in West London for the employment of the Mentally and Physically Deficient. This Society asks that patients coming under these heads should be referred to them. By their aid Cripples etc. are visited in their homes during and after their attendance at Hospital, with a view at first of interesting, [them] and then teaching them suitable trades or employments, thereby giving them the keen interest in life that is the only good substitute for their Physical deficiencies. I might mention one patient of some years' standing; a girl of 16, who was much scarred with Lupus and had lost her right arm from the same cause. She is being taught fine needlework on a frame and, after little more than a year's training, is earning 5/- to 10/- a week, and is, I hear, as
