At Whitsuntide a special three days course of lectures and demonstrations in the wards was arranged for V.A. Nurses, in recognition of the valuable assistance given to D.A.C.A. by the Red Cross and St. John's Nurses. Sixteen attended, coming from all parts of the county, and they expressed very warm appreciation of the instruction provided. In the autumn one day was devoted to lectures and demonstrations for the benefit of Clinic Secretaries. The Massage and Remedial Exercise Department has been a very busy one and 2,893 treatments were given. Light Treatment Department. In the Light Treatment Department the number of treatments were 442. Reports to Parents An innovation is the monthly letter to the parents of patients, giving a brief report of the patients' condition and prospects, with an assurance that any further information desired will be sent on application. This is immensely appreciated by the parents, and the knowledge that they will receive such a report has sometimes helped to secure consent for a child's treatment. Resignations. The resignation of Rev. G. McLuckie, Hon. Free Church Chaplain, was received with much regret. He has been succeeded by the Rev. F. Kinnings. Visitors. Visitors during the year have included Mr. Hugh Cabot, the distinguished American Surgeon, and Lt.-Col. Houlditch, Assist. Scout Commissioner (Headquarters) for work amongst cripples. In the summer a Garden Party with side-shows, etc., was arranged by the Staff and resulted in £40 for the Recreation Fund. Christmas. The Christmas Festivities as usual gave immense pleasure and were contributed to by many kind people, including Mr. and Mrs. Roe, Budleigh Salterton, who supplied a much appreciated conjuror, the Exeter Salvation Army Guards, who once more provided a splendid entertainment and gifts, Miss Nita Brown, whose pupils gave a dancing display, and friends in Washfield who sent a gift for every patient through Mrs. Webber. The excellent variety entertainment organised by the Nursing Staff, with the kind assistance of Mrs. Griffith, was a feature of the week. In connection with the Hospital Extension Appeal the Hospital Staff in all departments have, at their own suggestion, undertaken to raise the money for the equipment of the additional wards. This they are doing with great energy by means of the Blue Book of Golden Opinions, a most ingeniously devised scheme which enables donors of a penny upwards to take a direct share in the provision of equipment. 11
