The London Association for Hospital Services Limited 10, OLD JEWRY, E.C. 2 THE HOSPITAL SERVICE PLAN and THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE As many subscribers have expressed their concern about the future policy of the Hospital Service Plan consequent upon the introduction of the Government's National Health Service proposals, it is felt that a statement clarifying the position will be welcome. At the moment it is clear, from the text of the National Health Service Bill, and in the accompanying White Paper, which the Government has now laid before Parliament, that it is the intention to continue the provision of hospital Pay-ward facilities for patients who desire to use them and who are agreeable to paying the requisite charges and fees. It also is evident that the proposed National Health Service will not become operative until 1948 at the earliest. Therefore, subscribers may be assured that the Government's proposals will not affect the continuance of the Hospital Service Plan both now and after the National Health Service comes into effect; those who desire the privacy of a Pay-ward when needing hospital treatment will find the "Plan" of great service in meeting the cost. Subscribers may further be assured that the Council of Management will watch most carefully all developments, and that if it is practicable to extend the usefulness of the Plan, suitable adjustments will be made and all subscribers will be notified.
