In London the lower percentage does not necessarily mean that more women are attended by doctors. The Maternity Wards attached to the Medical Schools take about 3,500 cases and the district cases attended from the Medical Schools are over 6,000, the two together amounting to about 11% of the cases. In the English County Boroughs 70% of births notified by midwives and in the counties 61% so notified. NUMBERS OF MIDWIVES. March 31st 1927.
