description 1938-10 1938 1930s 12 pages LEICESTER ROYAL INFIRMARY. Dear Mr. Corah, With the increasing demands made upon the services of the Royal Infirmary, together with the progress of Medical and Surgical Science, it has become imperative that much larger provision should be made for the Casualty and X-Ray Departments. The methods of raising the necessary funds has caused the Board of Governors much anxiety and it is a great relief to them to learn that your Society is willing to undertake the raising of the necessary amount (£50,000) by increasing the weekly contribution. There has been no building development at the Infirmary for some years, but in addition to the extensions mentioned above, the Board is proceeding to enlarge the OUTPATIENT DEPARTMENT and intends to build a HOME FOR DOMESTIC SERVANTS for whom accommodation at present is very limited. I am glad to say the Board can see its way to pay for these two extensions which will cost some £40,000. I should like to point out that these extensions will be of valuable assistance to every one of your members and I desire very sincerely to thank your Society for its willingness to help the Royal Infirmary at this critical time. I am, Yours sincerely, J.G. PICKARD, Chairman of the Board. J.R. Corah, Esq. Leicester and County Saturday Hospital Society, Charles Street, Leicester. 292/842/2/106
