FIRST GROUP OF LESSONS CLEANLINESS OF THE BODY SYLLABUS Personal Cleanliness. — The need for daily, or at least frequent, washing of the whole body. The cold, tepid, and hot bath. How to arrange for baths where there is no bathroom or other bath accommodation. The value of hard and vigorous rubbing. The importance of clean utensils — towels, brushes, soap, basins, and bath. Toilet of the Hands. — Importance of washing the hands before touching food and table utensils — before writing letters, handling books or needlework. Washing the hands after using the water-closet. The use of the nailbrush. Cutting and filing the nails, and keeping them short and clean. Toilet of Face, Neck, and Ears. — How to clean the ears. Toilet of Feet. — Daily washing. Changing stockings after vigorous play or exercise. Changing wet stockings. Use of soap on the stockings when taking long walks. NOTES ON METHOD The subject-matter of this section may be made the material of simple talks to little children. We are dealing with that part of personal cleanliness which is expressed in performances whose results are immediately and easily obvious.
