description 1939-10 1939 1930s 27 pages ; illustrations ARE YOU SMARTLY SHOD? So many girls think that if they can afford to pay guineas and guineas for a coat and buy a really expensive hat they are well-dressed. [illustration] Now, this is not quite true. Perfection in the details of one's dress is what makes for smartness. Take a pride in being well shod. Being well shod does not mean constantly buying new shoes. Polish your shoes frequently. This will keep the leather soft — a preventive of foot soreness. Get the heels mended when they need it. A down-at-heel dirty shoe can spoil even the smartest turn-out, and it is really surprising how often one sees a seedy, half-cleaned pair of shoes worn with a lovely fur coat. Look out for this yourself; you will really be amazed. I prefer to see a girl simply dressed, her clothes brushed, a clean pair of gloves and a shining pair of shoes, don't you? Stockings must be changed and washed frequently, and darned neatly, so that they will not chafe the feet. They become hard with the sweat of the feet, and will wear much longer if washed in warm suds frequently. Treat your feet well, keep them as clean as you do your hands, and your pretty face will have no need to wear an unbecoming frown because of them. YOUR GROWN OF GLORY Shingled, bobbed or long — your hair should still be your crown of glory. It is not the length that makes its loveliness, but the texture, the silken softness or crisp waviness, [illustration] 8 177/5/8/4
