ILFORD TRADES COUNCIL & LABOUR PARTY INDUSTRIAL SECTION Chairman : Mr. H. J. BROWN Secretary : Mr. NORMAN TODD 55 PENRITH ROAD HAINAULT, ILFORD ESSEX Secretary Trades Council Dept; TUC Transport House, Smith Square, S.W.1 Dear Sir, There has recently come to hand a circular appealing for funds from a body styling themselves the Spanish Republicans in Great Britain from HOGAR ESPANOL, 22 Inverness Terrace, London, W.2. The object to assist the Spanish patriots in there (sic) fight to end the Franco regime is of course a very worthy one, but it is not very clear what course the support of the Spainish people is to take, so I felt before committing ourselves in anyway it would be as well to see what information the TUC have concerning this body and whether they are supporting this movement in anyway officially,or unofficially . Our council are rather sympathetic to the cause of the patriots,or underground movement in Spain, for unlike Mr Churchhill we dont feel Franco to be a much misunderstood man, indeed we feel all that has been said to his detriment, and all the caricatures have been mild, and erred on the side of understatement rather than over-statement, be that as it may we shall await with interest your comments and information on this matter. Thanking you in anticipation, Yours fraternally N Todd Hon; Sec.
