description 037-0078-001 BURGH OF DARVEL R. Calderwood, J.P., Provost. 69 John Morton Crescent, Darvel, July 19th. 1937. Ayreshire, Scotland. Sir Walter Citrine, Secretary, Trades Union Congress, Transport House, LONDON. Dear Sir, As a result of your article which appeared in the June issue of "LABOUR" relating to the Basque Children presently being cared for in this country, my Labour Colleagues and myself were able to get our Town Council to sponsor a non-party, non-religious effort on behalf of the fund for those children. We called in the assistance of our Burgh Band and representatives from the various Organisations in the town, and arranged a door-to-door collection of money, ready-to-wear clothing, and food which would not perish within reasonable time. This collection was made on Friday last, and the response was most encouraging. We are hopeful of being able to forward a goodly sum of money, and we have on our hands at the moment a very large collection of clothing and boots for children of all ages. Would you please let me know in return the particular address to which you desire the goods and money to be sent, so that they may be despatched from here at an early date. Your earliest attention will be appreciated. Yours sincerely, R. Calderwood 292/946/37/78
