-2- But that would still leave us with over 300 children for whom we are ultimately responsible; so that the outlook is a very anxious one, especially as I fear there are still other heavy bills for dilapidations to come. Dr. Camps is still trying to get a hostel opened in Glasgow, but as I have heard nothing about it for some time I am not very hopeful... Any further help therefore that you can send us would be most welcome. Yours sincerely Katharine Atholl P.S. I rather think that those of the older boys who are not fully self-supporting, and for whom local maintenance cannot be assured, should be encouraged to return to Spain, if they have families to whom to go - unless they feel strongly against it. The loan which we have made to Franco ought to help to create more employment there; and it is rather a nightmare to me to think that at the end of the war they are likely to be unemployed here. They should not be exposed to the dangers to which older people are exposed in going back, and their training here should help them to get jobs. But of course, where they are self-supporting, that is another matter. What do you think? I feel that if young people with friendly feelings to us, & having seen something of life in a democracy can get back into Spain without danger to themselves, that is for me good both of Spain and this country - & so[ ] peace.
