description 035-0132-001 Your Ref Our Ref Barry & District Trades Union Council MEMBERSHIP: Approx. 5,000. 25, Woodlands Road, BARRY, Glam. Chairman: J. COLLACOTT, 36, Richard Street, Barry Dock. Secretary: W. EVANS 13th Sept. 1942 Sir Walter Citrine, GEN. SEC; T.U.C. Dear Sir & Brother, At the monthly meeting of the Trades Council held on Wednesday, September 9th. attention was drawn to the position of members of the former International Brigades in Spain, now interned in France and Spain. Council is informed that the position of these men is terrible, and it is imperative that something be done to aid them immediately. These men, who are of all nationalities, fought Fascism in Spain from 1935 to 1938, as the united nations are now doing. This being so the Trades Council believes that these men can be classed as much prisoners of this war as any man is enemy hands. It is understood that some of the men have already been released, and many of the others have been offered domicile in Latin America. The Trades Council therefore asks General Council to do the utmost in their power to make the Government endeavour to obtain the release of these anti-fascists from internment, or at least have them regarded as prisoners of war under International Law. Thanking you in anticipation, Yours Fraternally, W.S. Evans, Sec. 292/946/35/132
