description 016a-0067-001 THE HOME COUNTIES LABOUR ASSOCIATION. (The Southern and Home Counties Association of Labour Parties) Ben Greene, The Hall Cottage, Berkhampstead, Herts. 23rd February 1937. Dear Comrade, SPAIN. The situation in Spain to-day is more dangerous than it has been at any period of the war. The fall of Malaga and the intensive military offensive of the German and Italian Fascist forces in Spain must have convinced all of us that the danger to Spanish democracy is greater at this moment than it has been since the beginning of the war. It is unfortunately true that the leaders of the Labour Party have not only failed to mobilise the Labour movement in the Spanish War, but have discredited their own promise and the will of the Labour Party as expressed at the Edinburgh Conference. The need to bring together Divisional and Local Labour Parties on this issue has found expression in many quarters. The Home Counties Labour Association has, therefore, arranged a Conference of Labour Parties in London and the Home and Southern Counties to consider what action the Labour Movement shall take in order to render at once the most effective possible support to the Spanish Government. The Conference will be held on: Saturday, March 13th in the CONWAY HALL, Red Lion Square, London, W.C.1. from 2.30 to 5.30 p.m. SPEAKERS who will include FRENCH AND SPANISH SOCIALISTS in addition to ENGLISH SPEAKERS will be announced later. Delegates Fee: 1/-. The date has been selected so that we can have the benefit of comrades from the Labour Movement in other countries who will be here for the meeting of the Labour and Socialist International and the International Federation of Trade Unions which happens to be fixed in London for the same week. There is no need for us to tell you of the urgency of this Conference and we want you to appoint delegates at once so that we can send them all particulars. Yours sincerely, BEN GREENE. Delegates form. Please send ...... Delegates credentials. (Delegates fee 1/-) Name......................... Address.......................................
