description 016b-0026-001 NEWSPAPER CUTTINGS Subject. I.F.T.U. MEETING. Sheet No. Reference. D.H. [Daily Herald] 18.11.37. Folder No. WORLD UNIONS DISCUSS WARS BY OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT PARIS, Thursday. TWO wars — in Spain and China — were the main problems before the executive of the International Federation of Trade Unions meeting here yesterday and to-day with Sir Walter Citrine in the chair. A statement issued this evening states that the executive discussed: "The situation in Spain and the very difficult position arising out of the differences in opinion which have occurred within the Spanish Trade Union Movement. "As both sections of the Spanish Movement wish the I.F.T.U. to act in a mediatory capacity it was decided to hold a special Executive meeting in Paris at the beginning of December to consider the Spanish question. "At this meeting the Executive will examine what action the I.F.T.U. can take in order to restore complete trade union unity, and thus unity of action in Spain." It was reported that the I.F.T.U. appeal for financial help for the population of those Chinese towns which have been most affected by Japanese bombardment has given very satisfactory results within the short space of time since it was issued. More than £30.000 had already come in or been promised from Belgium, Czechoslovakia, France, Great Britain and Holland. 292/946/16b/29
