NATIONAL COUNCIL OF LABOUR TRANSPORT HOUSE, SMITH SQUARE, LONDON, S.W.1 TRADES UNION CONGRESS THE LABOUR PARTY PARLIAMENTARY LABOUR PARTY Secretary: Walter M. Citrine Secretary: J.S. Middleton Secretary: H. Scott Lindsay (Victoria 9820) (Victoria 8016) (Whitehall 6240) Circ 73 To Constituency and Local Parties and Trades Councils. February 16th, 1939. Dear Secretary, As you will have no doubt gathered from the Press, the National Council of Labour at its meeting last evening decided to urge that all meetings in connection with the Movement during the forthcoming week-end should be asked to adopt Resolutions protesting emphatically against the recognition of General Franco and his Rebel Forces as the Government of Spain, especially while a considerable part of the country is in the hands of the Republican Government, which is still carrying n a heroic struggle against heavy odds. Resolutions on the lines suggested should be communicated direct to the Prime Minister at 10, Downing Street, London, S.W.1. The National Council of Labour agreed that all sections of the Movement should be called upon for immediate and generous help to meet the crying need of Republican Spain for food and the essentials of life. Opportunity should be taken for collections at all the week-end meetings and the amounts forwarded as quickly as possible to the "International Solidarity Fund," Transport House, Smith Square, London, S.W.1. Trusting to have your immediate and hearty co-operation, Yours fraternally, H.V. TEWSON, J.S. MIDDLETON, H. SCOTT LINDSAY. Joint Secretaries.
