description 022_0017-001 FÉDÉRATION SYNDICALE INTERNATIONALE INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS INTERNATIONALER GEWERKSCHAFTSBUND 9, AVENUE D'ORSAY, PARIS - VIIe ADRESSE TÉLÉGRAPHIQUE: TELEGRAPHIC ADDRESS: INTERFED, PARIS TELEGRAMMADRESSE: TÉLÉPHONE: INVALIDES 45-88 Situation Espagne 57 Sch/H/B. 20th February, 1937 To National Centres To International Trade Secretariats Dear Comrades, In view of the steadily increasing gravity of the Spanish situation, giving rise to fears of still more serious international complications, the IFTU Executive and the LSI Bureau, which met in Paris on the 17th February at the request of the Spanish comrades, have decided to call a special international Conference to examine the Spanish problem and its international repercussions. We would emphasise in particular the desirability of National Centres and International Trade Secretariats being represented at this conference by the largest and most representative delegation possible. The Conference will be held on the 10th and 11th March 1937 at 10.0. a.m. in the library of the Central Hall (1), Westminster, London. The Executive of the IFTU and the Bureau of the LSI, feeling that the Socialist and Trade Unionist organisations of the workers may have to take one of their most important decisions at this conference of the 10th and 11th March, regard it as the imperative duty of all organisations to send a large delegation to the Conference and to take their full share of the responsibility in the present circumstances. It was furthermore agreed that each Labour Party should make a special effort to have its Parliamentary Labour Party represented by the largest possible number of delegates. We are counting on all National Centres and International Trade Secretariats to respond in the greatest measure to the appeal of the two IFTU Executive and LSI Bureau. Yours sincerely W. Schevenels General Secretary (1) Central Hall, Westminster, is at the corner of Victoria Street, opposite the Houses of Parliament. Comrades arriving at Victoria Station will only have to follow Victoria Street to the square opposite the Houses of Parliament. 292/946/22/16
