description 012a-0007-001 FROM THE RT. HON. F. W. PETHICK-LAWRENCE, MP. 11 Old Square, Lincoln's Inn, W.C.2. 8th. December, 1938. Dear Mr. Tewson, A little while back one of your people called at the House of Commons with a representative of the Spanish Consulate and one or two other Spaniards to see me with regard to the Anglo Spanish Clearing Agreement. The net result of the conversation was that they wished me to talk over certain points with Mr. Hudson, the Secretary for Overseas Trade. This I have now done and he has made certain explanations to me on the matters in question. He suggests however that a much better approach would be if he put one of his officials who knows about these matters in direct touch with the representative of the Spanish Consulate who discussed them with me in the first instance. As soon therefore as I have the concurrence of the Spanish representative to this course, I will endeavour to get the matter put through and then afterwards, if it is thought I could be of any further use, I will try what can be done. As I do not know the name of the Spanish representative I shall be glad if you will take the next step. Yours sincerely, F.W. Pethick-Lawrence Mr. H.V. Tewson, T.U.C.
