description 025a-0079-001 Basque Social Secretariat 14, Eccleston Square London, S.W.1 Sir Walter Citrine, K.B.E. General Secretary, Transport House, S.W.1 September 14th, 1939 Sir, Each day I receive lettes from the Basque seamen under your care in the U.K. ports, asking me to call upon the British Authorities, to urge them to accept their services for the country. As General Secretary to the Basque Social Secretariat in London, I respectfully ask you to convey to the Ministry of Labour, the following suggestions: 1. That all these seamen, who are willing to serve the country be given an opporunity to do so. 2. That those of them who, to my knowledge have been working in the farms be incorporated in the Land Army. Basque seamen, including officers, come mostly from the farms. 3. That the Naval Engineer, should be used for mechanical work in the farms and/or in the factories. Some of them have specialised in Diesel Motors. I take this opportunity to offer through you, my services and those of my closest friends, to the Ministry of Labour as interpreters, labourers or in any other capacity. I am Sir, Yours obedient, Victor Saez 292/946/25a/79
