Tewson, London. Dear Comrade Tewson, I should be very much obliged if you could help me in a matter concerning Colonel J. R. de Quiros, who was the military superintendent in the IFTU's hospital in Onteniente, and there rendered very great service to the International Solidarity Fund. His present address is 59 rue des Vennes, Liège, Belgium. In the exodus from Spain, Colonel de Quiros lost nearly all his possessions and is now living In Liège on relief from our fund. He is trying to get his visa for Argentine, to rejoin his family, and he is very near getting the necessary papers. This would however be much facilitated if he had the money for the fare. He actually does possess 200 registered shares in the London and Rhodesian Mining and Land Co.,Ltd., but the shares or the official certificate are not in his hands. Apparently the stock certificate in his name has been sent to the British Overseas Bank Ltd., in London. As you will see from the attached copies of a letter to Colonel de Quiros from the London and Rhodesian Mining Co., and a letter from him to the British Overseas Bank Ltd., some difficulties have arisen in the way of the sale of the shares which Colonel de Quiros would like to carry out. The question is now whether it is possible by personal intervention with the British Overseas Bank Ltd., or the London & Rhodesian Mining & Land Co.,Ltd., to settle this question and to get some money from the shares. If you think it would be possible to intervene in this matter, I should be very much obliged to you and thank you in advance for the trouble entailed. Yours sincerely, W. Schevenels, General Secretary: Enc: 292/946/27/39(i)
