Solidarite No. 447 21st December 1936. Mr. Walter M. Citrine, LONDON. Dear Comrade Citrine, INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY FUND In acknowledging receipt of your letter of the 16th December, I would also confirm our conversation on the same subject of last Friday, the 13th, when we agreed that you should hand £1,000 to the Spanish Relief Committee of the Standing Joint Committee of Industrial Women's Organisations, to be spent on ready-made woollen goods for Spain. It was also agreed that 3,000 raincoats should be purchased and despatched to Spain immediately, and that a further 2,000 raincoats should be purchased and despatched as soon as possible. We agreed that all these goods should be sent to the North of Spain, either direct to Juan Ruiz, Civil Governor, Santander, Spain, or, if this is not possible, to the Spanish Consul, Bayonne, France. In the case of all consignments, we very strongly recommend that the IFTU be advised immediately it is possible of the date and port of sailing, and the probable time of arrival, either in Santander or Bayonne, so that we can make the necessary arrangements for the reception of the goods and their distribution in Spain. I assume that you have enough funds at your disposal to cover the expenditure entailed. I would take this opportunity of acknowledging receipt of the statement showing the sums earmarked for Spain received in London on behalf of the International Solidarity Fund, which you handed me during the Executive meeting. Would it be possible for you to let us have also a first statement of all the payments made up to now, on behalf of the International Solidarity Fund, out of the monies deposited in London? Thanking you in advance, Yours sincerely, W. Schevenels, General Secretary. 292/946/28/132
