International HVT/AC/147 14th March, 1939. Mr. G. Stolz, International Federation of Trade Unions, 9, avenue d'Orsay, PARIS, VIIIe. Dear Comrade Stolz, FOOD FOR SPAIN (POTATOES). We confirm the information given to you on the 'phone this afternoon, namely, that the price of potatoes supplied by the Potato Marketing Board is 30/- per ton, free on board ship, Lincolnshire, Yorkshire or Scottish ports. The approximate price at Liverpool or Southampton would be, as stated to you, 35s. to 37s.6d. per ton free on board. To these prices must be added freight charges from British port to Spain, which for the last consignment amounted to 150,000 French francs. I do not know your reason for requiring this information, and I am wondering whether you have actually received the 674 bags of potatoes, which were ordered to be shipped from Garston via Rouen Cerbere/ Port Bou on 1st February last. Yours sincerely, Assistant Secretary.
