description Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations. Security Council Statements were made by Venezuela, Ecuador, Uruguay, India, Yugoslavia, Norway and China. Except for Yugoslavia, these countries fully supported the objectivity of the report. Norway refuted the Soviet allegation and praised the Special Committee for its moral standing. Support was expressed for the draft resolution, and it was hoped that appropriate actions would be taken by the United Nations to assure the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Hungary.
