Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Principal contributor(s): United Nations. General Assembly Mr. János Kádár gives a speech in which he defends the presence of the Soviet Army in Hungary. According to him, the "Question of Hungary" and the special committee investigation only served Cold War purposes and has been promoted by the United States. This session also discussed a proposal by the Soviet Union to replace the current position of a Secretary General with a tripartite administrative body.
