The files are based on both underground and official publications (including the foreign press) – clippings of journal articles, xerox copies of books, RFE-produced materials (A-wires, B-wires, situation reports and background reports). The special focus of the series is on legal matters related to independent political activities and state repression thereof, including entries on: provisional custody, legal banishment, employment bans, capital banishment, misdemeanor courts, the penitentiary system and penal policy.
The series also documents some of the most famous political trials as well as cases of state harassment and repression against pro-Solidarity priests.
