On 27, 28, 29 April 1999 the Republika Srpska Commission on Tracing Prisoners and Missing Persons exhumed the remains of 40 individuals from five localities in the vicinity of Smoluća. The stated purposes of the exhumations were to 1) confirm identities of 32 interred individuals in a temporary cemetery, focusing on two possible cases of missing bodies and three possible cases of confused or switched identities, 2) find an unmarked grave and recover the enclosed body near the BiH Army barracks near Babunovići, 3) confirm a suspected removal of a body at Jezero Cemetery, near Cvetkovići, 4) locate and identify up to an additional seven unmarked burials along the Smoluća ridge, known as Široka Ravan, and 5) recover a body of a civilian buried in an unmarked grave at the edge of a plowed field in the village of Potpeć-Savići.
