description Duration: 00:32:00 There's a ring at the door of the apartment of Kamiński, a worker who can hardly make ends meet. The guest asks for a glass of water, but soon turns out to be a smart, smooth talking peddler offering an unusual service. He paints portraits in oils, based on photographs, monidłos. (Monidło is a term applied to a special kind of oil painting made upon a photograph i.e.a kind of "nice" (kitschy) picture, usually wedding portrait. Common among peasants in villages, especially around the middle of the 20th century). Persuaded by the cheek and expressiveness of the peddler, Kamiński decides that the portraits are a must. He orders two of them and pays the equivalent of two weeks' wages. Only when Kamiński’s wife comes back from work, does he realize that he might have made a mistake. The peddler leaves with the photos and promises to come back with the paintings. A satirical portrait of petty bourgeois and provincial taste, based upon a short story by Jan Himilsbach.
