Description
Summary:032-0178-001 I.C.3. TRADES UNION CONGRESS. INTER-DEPARTMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE. From: Miss Adam. To: Mr. Tewson. Department: Women's Date: 13th December, 1939. SUBJECT. Spanish Relief Committee. At the last meeting of the Spanish Relief Committee the Woman Officer of the Labour Party reported on the activity of the Local Women's Committees throughout our Movement. It appears that work is being held up through lack of funds, and it was suggested that we might approach you with regard to a donation. You will remember when the Committee started Sir Walter Citrine agreed to a donation of £1,000, when representatives of the Committee accompanied you to the Co-operative Wholesale Society to purchase goods. We set up 47 Local Knitting Committees with excellent results. Now we are faced with the position of the women in the Local Committees, anxious to knit garments for the women and children in Spain, but we are at the moment extremely short of cash. Do you think it would be possible through the International Solidarity Fund to let us have £100 in order to purchase wool to keep our Committees going? Can you help us? 292/946/32/178
