Summary: | Verzio FF Submission
The Central America republics have been called banana republics since the United Fruit Company was set up in the region. Since then, the banana-growing sector has developed as a closed, self-contained world. “Something is Stirring Under the Banana Trees” follows a labor dispute in the banana plantations of Morales, in the north of Guatemala. This documentary exposes the sealed world of the banana plantations, focusing on a labor conflict which includes death threats, assaults on the trade union, a mass trial against the attackers and, finally, the forced exile of the threatened union workers. |
