The main topic of the interview is the way in which István Teplán got in touch with Soros as early as 1980s, how he cumulated education and experience and how CEU developed in the 1990s.István Teplán, one of the creators of CEU, the first international Western-style graduate school in the post-communist Central Europe, speaks about his first encounters with George Soros, the subsequent education in America and his contribution in the “California program”, as well as the first meeting of CEU in Dubrovnik in 1989. István Teplán also provides explanations on the initial idea of an international graduate school in three cities - Prague, Budapest and Warsaw.
