Summary:This historical biographical film is a portrait of Nikolai Shchors (1895-1919), a partisan leader and communist, one of the few Bolshevik icons of Ukrainian origin. It takes place in Ukraine in 1919. The Red Army detachments are moving towards Kiev. Shchors prepares for the battle with Petlyura and Dragomilov troops. The work was commissioned by Stalin himself, who asked Dovzhenko to make "a Ukrainian Chapayev", the Russian Red Army commander.
