Summary:Records of this digital collection were assembled to document the work of the UN Special Committee on the Problem of Hungary established on January 10, 1957 by the United Nations General Assembly for the purpose of investigating the 1956 Hungarian revolution. Statements regarding the purges within the Communist party; the collective protest by Hungarian writers against the UN report and the allegations in the foreign press that the writers were forced to sign the protest; statement regarding a new definition of the distribution of illegal leaflets as a grave counter-revolutionary act; incitement against the regime; making comments, propaganda against the party, disseminating foreign broadcast news. Acts such as these would be treated with the same severity as were acts of armed fighting last October.
