Smith — Lily 10385 Visited 13 Brook Rd Saw Mrs. Smith and after a good deal of arguing Mrs Smith said her husband was a labourer at present out of work, that he had no regular employers but generally gave her 18/- or 20/- a week, could not say what he earned. They occupied a house but let to lodgers, they themselves stood at 5/6 a week Mrs Smith said she earns what she can by washing but has no regular employment her average weekly earnings are from 6/ to 8/- a week. Mrs Smith seemed very straight forward although she objected to inquiries. A neighbour informed agent that Mr Smith drank a good deal and they did not think he gave his wife so much as 18/- a week. No Infn Dentist Phipps — Thomas 10272 Called at 49 Coburg Rd Saw Mr. Phipps who said he was a bricklayer his wages were 10 1/2 an hour which in the summer would amount to about £2-6 a week but in the winter would vary very much, he thought an average of 32/- a week all the year round would be about right. The family consists of himself, wife and 3 children They stand at 7/- rent. Mr Phipps stated he belonged to a slate club and sent his mother 3/- a week. Mr Low Insuff. Infn. Abbey — Edward 10276 Visited 24 Lower Rd saw Mr. Abbey who said he was a lamplighter and sometimes earned 10/- a week at others 14/- but would give no further information. Judging from appearances Agent thinks they are fairly well off but could not find anyone who could give any idea of their resources, they live in a small house of which the rent would be about 7/- or 8/- a week. Insn Inf. Gouty inflammation sole of foot Hatchood [ard] — Alice 10400 Called at 59 Victoria Rd Stroud Green — Alice Hatchood answered the door. When told the object of the visit said her master or mistress got her into the Hospital and she could give no further information but she understood they were subscribers to the Hospital.
