NATIONAL EYE SERVICE [8] the glasses. The technique of this work is highly skilled, and its proper execution is of the utmost importance in the patient's interest. Where the service is provided The combined ophthalmic medical and dispensing service is controlled by a special organisation called the National Ophthalmic Treatment Board, composed of representatives of the British Medical Association and the Association of Dispensing Opticians. By such a constitution, the interests of all applicants for advice or treatment are adequately and properly protected. Already this Board has set up 127 centres throughout the country, and others are being added to the list as rapidly as arrangements can be made. Consultations are private A patient can attend specially provided consulting rooms, where both the medical and dispensing service is available under one roof, or he may select from a list the doctor with whom a consultation is desired at the doctor's private address. In either case arrangements are made for the individual appointments to suit the time and convenience of the patient. The Cost The fee for the medical consultation is 10/6, and, if glasses are prescribed, an additional charge is payable, determined by the type of frame chosen.
