WE DO NOT ADVOCATE BIRTH CONTROL AS A MERE PALLIATIVE TO THE WORKER ON STARVATION WAGES. WE ADVOCATE IT AS SOMETHING THAT IS FUNDAMENTAL TO A HEALTHY AND INTELLIGENT COMMUNITY, as essential to the mother if her work is to be really creative. We want not only children, but the best possible children. We have been told that the Public Health Service through the Maternity and welfare Centres will not be allowed to give Birth Control advice to working mothers, (even if bearing another child will certainly cost the mother her life) without the express authority of Parliament. That being so, this becomes a political question and we are bound to ask political people to help us. All the medical help the working mother gets comes to her from the public services and hospitals. We cannot compel hospitals, which are voluntary institutions, but we can insist that the State medical service shall not withold vital knowledge from working mothers, whom it should serve. Do you wish to change these laws? If so, what are you going to do about it?
