International HVT/AC/DT/1082. 8th August, 1942. Mr. L. Fawcett, Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers, "The Builders", Crescent Lane, South Side, Clapham Common, S.W.4. Dear Mr Fawcett, U.G.T. DELEGATION IN GREAT BRITAIN. Thank you for your letter of 7th August in which you enclose a letter you have received from the U.G.T. Delegation in Gt. Britain and asking whether it is officially recognised by the British T.U.C. At the end of June last we received an invitation from this body to be represented at a Conference which they were organising on 4th and 5th July. We made enquiries of our friends of the I.F.T.U. and the U.G.T. and we were informed that the U.G.T. Delegation is Communist. We consequently did not reply to the invitation. The name of the body which is recognised by the T.U.C. and the I.F.T.U is called the Trade Union Group of Spanish Workers in Gt. Britain, the offices of which are in this building. For your information the I.F.T.U. wrote to the U.G.T. Delegation of Gt. Britain at the beginning of July last asking for particulars of their activities and has not so far received a reply. We have ourselves received a similar letter to the one which you have received and which we are returning herewith. Yours sincerely, General Secretary.
