description 1939-07-20 038-0079-001 Secretary's. HVT/FC/631. Alderman Crump, Lord Mayor's Parlour, Town Hall, BIRMINGHAM. 20th July, 1939. Dear Alderman Crump, Now that Elford Hall has closed down, I should like to add my personal thanks to those already conveyed to you from the Basque Children's Committee, for the invaluable assistance which you gave us in connection with the Birmingham Committee. We are most grateful to you for bringing to this task not only the prestige of your official position, but also your own personal interest in and sympathy with the children. Incidentally, I may say that some of the children from the Birmingham Home have been transferred to the Barnet Home in which Mrs. Tewson and I are personally interested. I am wondering whether it would be possible to secure the transfer of some of the Birmingham interest and sympathy to the Basque Children who are at Aldridge Lodge, Bosty Lane, Barr Common, Walsall. This Home has hitherto been entirely self-supporting, but after two years it is beginning to feel the strain, and is finding some difficulty in maintaining funds at their normal level. As Walsall is so near to Birmingham the Basque Children's Committee are hoping that Members of the old Birmingham Committee may be willing to help a little in Walsall. I need hardly say how very pleased and grateful I personally should be for any help which you yourself can give, and persuade others to give in this direction. 292/946/38/79(I)
