Description
Summary:022_0003-001 THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT WAS MADE ON BEHALF OF THE TRADES UNION CONGRESS AND THE LABOUR PARTY. Reports have appeared in the press purporting to describe the speeches made at the Conference in London, which was held this week under the auspices of the International Federation of Trade Unions and the Labour and Socialist International. The Conference was not open to the public or the press, but at its conclusion a statement embodying the decisions arrived at was issued. Such other unauthorised statements as have appeared are inaccurate in many essential particulars, especially a report which has appeared in the Communist press. This latter statement is a vindictive and absurd travesty of the speech which was made by Mr. Ernest Bevin, and of the proceedings of the Conference. Mr. Bevin spoke at the request of and in full agreement with his British colleagues, who subscribed unreservedly to the official resolution unanimously adopted by the Conference.
