description 1937-06-02 011-0086-002 TRANSLATION OF TELEGRAM FROM SPAIN An outrageous attack, surpassing all the proofs which have so far been given of the invasion of our country by German and Italian Fascism, has just been made against our town by the Nazi squadron in charge of the supervision in the waters of Almería, which has thus violated all the principles of law and all agreements regarding intervention. The cannon of the German warships have subjected the civil population of Almeria to a violent bombardment and the most sanguinary fire. In view of this bellicose activity, which is the inadmissible expression of Fascism's war plans, we - the workers and peasants of Spain, who are fighting in the van against national and international Fascism, thus, in protecting their freedom, defending the workers of the world against the horrors of war - appeal to you, comrades of the Labour and Socialist International, the Communist International and the International Federation of Trade Unions, all the workers organised in the Parties and the Trade Unions, to intensify your solidarity with the Spanish people, who have just suffered another outrageous attack direoted against their homes and their unarmed children. We appeal to you, who are the vanguard of the world proletariat and bear its glorious banners, to take common and determined action, in view of the fact that the Fascist governments are attacking with uprecedented fury our civil population and endangering the lives of the old, the women and children, and thus to stimulate the solidarity of the workers of all countries which are determined to frustrate the Fascists' plans and prevent the catastrophe of a world war. Long live the international solidarity of the workers against Fascism! Everyone together for the Spanish people! Forward to the fight for the peace and freedom of the world! For the Spanish Socialist Labour Party: Ramon Lamoneda,Secretary. For the Spanish Communist Party: José Diaz, General Secretary. For the Executive of the Spanish National Trade Union Centre Felipe Pretel, Acting General Seoretary. 292/946/11/86(ii)
