Tawney Sir Charles Trevelyan Dorothy Woodman Leonard Woolf December 20th, 1938 Dear Friend, As a contributor to our foodship fund you will no doubt wish to know how it is progressing and what has been done with the money collected. Since the opening of the fund at the Emergency Conference on October 23rd we have received £3,200 from Labour Parties and individual subscribers all over the world. The sums received range from 1/- to £100 and many contributors send weekly amounts. The first £2,000 was handed to the T.U.C. and formed part of a consignment of £6,000 worth of goods sent through the International Solidarity Fund. The consignment was made up as follows:- Yellow soap £750, Carbolic soap £250, Milk £3,000, Dried Fish £1,000; the balance being made up of ships' biscuits and a large quantity of Cod Liver Oil which is necessary on account of the low vitamin content of the food which the children are receiving. These goods were sent overland through France. The amount allocated to central Spain is then sent round the coast in Spanish Government ships. The second £1,000 has also been given to the T.U.C. and is being used immediately. The fund is still open and we hope to reach £5,000 before the end of January. The need is as great as ever and we appeal to you to send us all you can possibly afford. All money received is spent on food - the Labour Spain Committee is an entirely voluntary organisation and has no overhead expenses. Donations should be sent to the Treasurer. PLEASE CONTINUE YOUR HELP. Yours fraternally, H.N. Brailsford (Chairman) J. Pole (Secretary) Austen Albu (Treasurer) 292/946/32/124(ii)
