EXTENSION NO. 87 PLEASE ADDRESS YOUR REPLY: CO-OPERATIVE WHOLESALE SOCIETY LIMITED, EXPORTERS, BUYING AND SHIPPING AGENTS, 1, BALLOON STREET, MANCHESTER, 4. CABLE CODES: A.B.C. 6TH AND 7TH EDITIONS; WESTERN UNION 8 LETTER; BENTLEY COMPLETE PHRASE; BENTLEY SECOND PHRASE; A.1. MARCONI, AND PRIVATE. Our Reference: Export.2185.ST/RN. Your Reference: 5th January, 1939. Mr. Tewson, The Trades Union Congress, Transport House, Smith Square, LONDON S.W.1. Dear Sir, Confirming our telephonic conversation with you this morning, we have to advise having purchased on your behalf, from the Potato Marketing Board, London, 750 tons of Potatoes, the price of which will be 45/8d. per ton, c.i.f. Rouen, packed in free new bags. We are informed that suppliers expect to be able to connect with the s.s. C.W.S. PROGRESS, from Garston on the 18th instant, but this will depend to a great extent on the weather, as it will be impossible for the potatoes to be moved while the present cold continues. We assume the Potatoes will have to be consigned to Sr. Enrique Santiago, Barcelona, and unless we hear from you to the contrary, we will arrange accordingly, forwarding from Rouen to Barcelona under bond, via Cerbere. Meanwhile, we should like to express our thanks for this order, and to assure you of our best attention. Yours faithfully, E. Winstanley Export Department. 292/946/32/151
