Description
Summary:1901-10-30 1901 1900s 1 page ROYAL FREE HOSPITAL The attention of the Medical Officers is specially directed to the following regulations in reference to the Casualty and Out Patient Departments. Notices are placed at the Entrances to the following effect: "Accidents and Urgent Cases only will be admitted at the Principal Entrance. All other patients must apply at the Out Patient Entrance at the usual hours." No cases, except accidents, are to be treated in the Casualty Receiving Room for more than two weeks, after which period such patients must be referred to the Out Patient Department. As a general rule, trivial cases should not be seen more than three times by the Casualty Officer. No operations are to be performed in the Casualty Room, except those of urgency in Minor Surgery and cases referred by the Surgeons from the Out Patient Department. Medicines prescribed, are to be limited, as far as possible, to the Hospital Pharmacopoeia. The Casualty Officers on duty in the Out Patient Department are instructed to distribute the trivial cases more evenly over the week, for instance, many of the patients attending on Mondays may be instructed to come again later in the week. Cases considered proper for treatment either by the Poor Law, or by Provident Dispensaries should be referred accordingly. Patients recommended by a Medical Practitioner for a consultative opinion are to be admitted as Out Patients. By Order of the Weekly Board, CONRAD W. THIES, Secretary.
