Description
Summary:Verzio FF Submission Narrated by Jeremy Irons, “The Power of the Powerless” explores Czechoslovakia’s complex history of struggle against controlling totalitarian regimes – from the iron-fisted Stalinist government, through the vibrant and politically active Prague Spring of the 1960s, and into the hard-line backlash of the 1970s. At the heart of the film is the student-led Velvet Revolution of the late 1980s, in which Czech youth, seeing the new era of Gorbachev’s Perestroika and Glasnost, took to the streets to protest their repressive regime and, within weeks, had grown to crowds of a half-million in the streets. Featuring original interviews with dissidents such as former President Vaclav Havel, this film tells the inspirational story of the Velvet Revolution of 1989, and asks why Czech youth aren't being taught about their own history.
