Description
Summary:"This report brings together two documents. Both draw on the activities of the DEEPEN (Deepening Ethical Engagement and Participation with Emerging Nanotechnologies) project and make recommendations for policy and research on nanotechnology. Part 1, reported by Davies, Macnaghten and Kearnes, takes the findings of the DEEPEN project as a whole and explores their implications for public policy. It critically examines the world of nanoscience and industry, research into public perceptions and participation, and the governance of nanotechnology. Its intended audience is those involved in policy in these areas, and its recommendations are shaped accordingly. Part 2 is reported by Ferrari and Nordmann and draws on the philosophical analysis carried out by the DEEPEN project. It discusses the field of ‘nanoethics’ and recommends new directions and approaches for this. While relevant to those involved in policy, it is also directed more generally at funding agencies, research institutes, and academic researchers involved in the philosophical, ethical and social study of nanotechnology."
