Description
Summary:"This note studies the aggregated consequences of lean production on occupational hazards in the American private sector over the past teen years. We argue that lean production can damage workplace health: it increases the intensity of work both in manufacturing and tertiary industries, and some practices can be incompatible with the learning and the design of safety rules. Using surveys on organizational changes, management literature along with BLS-OSHA data, we show for 26 sectors that reorganization results in a dramatic increase in occupational injuries and illnesses.
